Who are the menairons? It's difficult to say. Nobody has ever seen them, as in reality, they are tiny; however, we can imagine what they look like. They live inside a knitting needle case, which is a very small tube with a cork cap. All the menairons fit inside and yet they still have enough room to move around. If we were to put them under a microscope, we would see that they are quite plump, they wear a large, moss-green coloured hat, a striped t-shirt and clogs. Their fingertips are red raw because of all the work they do. All the work they do? Yes! The menairons are very hard workers. They are always ready for any task entrusted to them. They are very, very strong and know how to organise themselves to do everything that they've been asked to do as quickly as possible and to the highest possible quality, without getting tired or breaking into a sweat.
The menairons have always made light work of the most complex tasks. Who built the Egyptian pyramids? Legend has it that the menairons did. Who built the Great Wall of China? It would appear that they did that too. Whenever they have been asked, they have offered a helping hand. Once, a meteorite was heading straight for Earth and they deflected it at the last minute. However, the menairons are very shy and don't like to be seen. They are hidden deep in the mountains and many houses in the Pyrenees remind us how the menairons helped them to clear rocks from the meadows or reap a field full of wheat in a matter of seconds.
Nowadays, thanks to machinery and engineers, the menairons have hidden themselves a little deeper. They are uncomfortable with the hustle and bustle of our world. As they started to see that nobody needed their help any more, they searched for a sheltered place to live in peace. And so there they stayed, minding their own business and almost forgotten by the rest of the world, waiting for somebody to ask them for help. As they imagined that humans would be unable to survive without them forever, they hid clues in old books to help us find them if we really needed to.
